Description
A slightly raised chest of drawers inlaid with rosewood, satinwood, mahogany and green-tinted light wood decorated with trompe l'oeil cubes and a wolf's tooth frieze. It opens with five drawers in three rows, the first of which is in three parts and two without a crosspiece, applied with ribbon and ring escutcheons. The mounts are simulated fluted and stand on sheathed legs. Stamped L. Moreau and JME on the left and right rear jambs. Louis XVI period H. 88 cm - W. 126.5 cm - D. 56 cm (top in grey Sainte-Anne marble, has its key) Louis Moreau was awarded the title of Master in 1764. He bought the business À la descente des Tuileries and employed renowned craftsmen such as Bircklé, Foullet and Topino. He only made some of the furniture he sold himself. This type of checkerboard marquetry is characteristic of the cabinetmaker Antoine Foullet, who made a chest of drawers with two drawers and no crossbar with similar decoration, stamped with his name (Versailles sale 1986).
