DUPLEIX (Scipion). Military laws concerning duelling, divided into four books.
One of the most important early sources on the practice of duelling, published in the year that Henry IV signed the first edict prohibiting its use in France.

In-4 volume (230 x 160 mm). Soft ivory-coloured vellum of the period, double fillet binding on the covers, large oval stamp with olive leaf motifs, plain spine decorated with fillets and gilt fleurons, gilt edges, modern fastenings.

Vellum rubbed with marks and stains, perforated at the edges, two nicks on the second cover, small hole in the bottom margin and in the centre of the leaves, no loss of text, small stains on pages 155–6.
Very rare first edition. Copy fully repaired.
