An exceptional collection of three short treatises devoted to the production of tea, bamboo paper and lacquer in imperial China, illustrated with magnificent plates finely coloured at the time.
Paris, Nepveu, 1814, 1815, 1820.
3 volumes in 1 volume, In-18 (135 x 84 mm). Well-made binding in light half-calf, spine ribbed and decorated with gilt and blind-stamped bands, with mosaic-style title and volume number labels. Contemporary binding.

The paper of 3 botanical plates is slightly yellowed.
First editions and first impressions of the plates. The set comprises 34 plates, 30 of which are double-sheet, mounted on tabs, veritable miniature paintings precisely depicting the various stages of tea, varnish and bamboo paper production.
The treatise on tea is by François Marquis, tea merchant to the Count of Artois, who founded a chocolate-making, confectionery and tea and coffee trading business in Paris in 1818, on the Passage des Panoramas.
The treatises on bamboo paper and the art of lacquerwork are based on the memoirs of the missionary fathers d’Entrecolles, Cibot and d’Incarville.
