A poignant literary testimony:
Written just five days after the death of Jean Giraudoux (29 October 1882 – 31 January 1944), this “Dialogue of the Dead” imagines the playwright’s entry into the afterlife, welcomed by his own creations: Ulysses, Electra, Helen, Alcmene and Judith. Jean de Beer offers here a unique eulogy, in which the mythical characters surround their creator as he enters this ‘unfading light’.
This first draft manuscript, resonating with the recent loss of the master, constitutes an exceptional literary and historical testimony to the bonds that united the playwrights of that generation.
