DURET (Théodore). The Impressionist Painters. Claude Monet – Sisley – C. Pissarro – Renoir – Berthe Morisot. A seminal study of the masters of Impressionism: Pissarro, Monet, Sisley, Renoir, Morisot, Cézanne and Guillaumin. A fine, complete copy including the three original etchings: Auguste Renoir (Bather), Berthe Morisot (Young Girl with a Cat) & Armand Guillaumin (In Holland). Paris, H. Floury, 1922–1923. Volume in-8 (165 x 255 mm), paperback, printed cover. 194 pages. Paperback in very poor condition, front cover faded and loose, spine cracked, back cover missing, paper browned, fine prints of the etchings. Third edition, partly original, illustrated with this seminal study on the masters of Impressionism: Pissarro, Monet, Sisley, Renoir, Morisot, Cézanne and Guillaumin. Enriched with numerous reproductions and three original engravings. The author has added to this edition the text of his study published in 1878, a chapter entitled ‘In 1922’, and an Afterword. The cover is dated 1923, whilst the title is from 1922. Théodore Duret (1838–1927) was a French art critic and collector, a pioneer in the defence of Impressionism. Close to the artists, he played a key role in the movement’s recognition, notably through his writings and his support for exhibitions. His book *Les Peintres Impressionistes* (1878) remains a historical reference for understanding the birth and evolution of this artistic movement.
