[MANUSCRIPT]. HANOTAUX (Gabriel). Collection of eight manuscripts. An exceptional collection of over 250 handwritten pages by Gabriel Hanotaux, covering his favourite subjects: the history of France, Normandy, Paris and colonial expansion. 1900–1908. Quarto volume (280 x 240 mm), loose sheets in a double cardboard slipcase, red percaline spine decorated with a title label and gilt metal fittings. 273 handwritten pages. Double slipcase rubbed, percaline worn, cardboard folder damaged. Interior fresh and clean. Important collection of autograph manuscripts by Gabriel Hanotaux (1853–1944), member of the Académie Française and former Minister for Foreign Affairs. Proofs with corrections. This collection offers a unique insight into the development of his historical and political thought at the turn of the century. Comprises eight items: -‘Normandy in French Unity’, lecture delivered in Rouen on 18 February 1900. (71 pp.). Proofs with corrections. -["Le Havre in the History of France"], lecture delivered on 23 November 1900 in Le Havre. (62 pp.). -"The Centenary of Victor Hugo. 2nd draft". Speech delivered at the ceremony at the Panthéon on 26 February 1902 (23 pp.). -Lecture delivered in Oran [Algeria] at a congress of the Geographical Society, with the autograph dedication "To M. G. Vicaire // G. Hanotaux" at the top. (35 pp). -"Introduction" to General Galliéni’s volume "Nine Years in Madagascar" (1908). (16 pp.). -Two articles published in Le Journal around 1900: one on the social and urban transformations of Paris (17 pp.), the other on President Félix Faure (13 pp.). -"Madame de Maintenon" (36 pp.). A first-rate collection attesting to Gabriel Hanotaux’s stature as a historian and statesman.
