A poetic ballad set on the Seine during the Belle Époque, in a copy with a distinguished provenance.
Paris, Ch. Bosse, 1903.
Quarto volume (280 x 214 mm). Loose-leaf volume in a cream-coloured cover decorated with a colour etching. Publisher’s cardboard slipcase with flexible flaps, title and vignette on the front cover.
40 pages.
Slipcase rubbed, clasps cracked, fastenings missing. Interior perfectly fresh.
A deluxe edition limited to just 184 copies, this one being one of 150 printed on Van Gelder laid paper (no. 41).
The work is a remarkable evocation of Parisian river life at the turn of the century.
Illustrated with 14 original etchings (including the colour cover) by Eugène Béjot and Charles Huard, as well as 10 woodcuts by Jacques Beltrand.
Exceptional provenance: This copy comes from the library of André Barrier (1870–1957), a magistrate and great Parisian bibliophile, who was president of the prestigious Société des Cent Bibliophiles. His beautiful etched bookplate appears on the flyleaf. It is enriched with a few handwritten notes in his own hand.
