VICAIRE (Georges). A Handbook for the Collector of 19th-Century Books. 1801–1893. A magnificent set, fully interleaved, in a fine half-maroquin binding by Petitot. Paris, A. Rouquette Booksellers, 1894–1910. 7 large 8vo volumes (247 x 150 mm), in black half-maroquin with corner caps, ribbed spines, gilt head edges, covers and spines preserved. Bindings by Petitot. Between 450 and 650 pages per volume. Spines uniformly faded, a few corners very slightly rubbed. First edition. One of 1,000 numbered copies on vellum paper, this one no. 818. The first seven volumes of this benchmark work of 19th-century French bibliography. It would appear, according to a note on glassine paper bound before the half-title page of volume IV, that only seven volumes were entrusted to the bookbinder. This same note specifies that our copies have been interleaved with sheets of glassine paper. Included are: two order forms for the complete works of Jules Renard and Courteline from François Bernouard. A very fine set, very fresh and in very good condition.
