Sumptuous mosaic-bound and lined by Henri Noulhac, containing a unique copy, printed on antique Japanese paper for the jeweller and bibliophile Henri Vever, accompanied by several states of the illustrations on China paper and 21 plates of original drawings by Eugène Grasset.

Quarto (235x290 mm), full red morocco, a laurel garland framing the covers around a large central decorative motif supporting a mosaic panel of green morocco with the title in gold on the front cover and the date on the back, spine with 4 raised bands entirely decorated with a gilded laurel branch, double gilt fillet on the edges, wide inner border of the same morocco set within a frame of solid and dotted fillets, and laurel leaves cut from circles at the corners, Henri Vever’s gilt bookplate on the inside front cover, signature “J. Chadel del" and "H. Noulhac Rel." on the second, duck-green morocco linings, red rep endpapers, double marbled paper endpapers, edges gilt on witnesses, covers and spine preserved, half-morocco slipcase with bands, matching edged slipcase (H. Noulhac).
44 pages, 14 compositions by Eugène Grasset wood-engraved by Ernest Florian, including 1 frontispiece, 2 insert plates, 3 headpieces, 2 decorated initials and 2 tailpieces in monochrome using 2, 3 or 4 colours, as well as 4 in-text plates in black.

Limited edition of 400 numbered copies; this is a unique copy, printed on antique Japanese paper for Eugène Gasset, accompanied by 1 to 4 additional proofs of the illustrations on Chinese paper, including several colour separation plates, and 21 plates of original drawings by Eugène Grasset, in pen or graphite, including 2 enhanced with watercolour and 19 in black, amongst which is a fine portrait of Anatole France.
It is further enhanced by the publisher’s subscription form (a double leaf in-8 mounted on in-fine tabs).
An exceptional copy from the collection of the great jeweller and bibliophile Henri Vever, luxuriously produced by Henri Noulhac based on a design by Jules Chadel.
