An exceptional copy in a binding signed by René Kieffer, enhanced by a separate set of etchings, three original drawings signed by Coussens (two of which are inserted into the endpapers), and three original copperplate engravings set into the covers of the binding.

Small quarto (195x250 mm), burgundy coarse-grained morocco, ribbed spine cold-stamped with the title and author’s name in gold lettering, 3 copper plates inlaid on the covers, including the title and frontispiece plates, wide inner border of the same morocco leather set with a double dotted frame featuring gilt fleurons at the corners, bookbinder’s signature in the leather, 2 original signed drawings by Coussens inserted into the endpapers, the title vignette on the first and the second copperplate on the second, brown silk endpapers with floral decoration, double endpapers, gilt head on endpapers, covers and spine preserved, edged slipcase (René Kieffer).
XII and 112 pages, 30 compositions by Armand Coussens etched in black, including a title vignette, 10 chapter heads, 10 frontispieces and 9 tailpieces.

A deluxe edition of this collection of tales by the Provençal poet and writer Paul Arène (1843–1896), introduced by Jean-Jacques Brousson and illustrated with 30 delicate etchings by Armand Coussens (1881–1935), an engraver and etcher from Nîmes renowned for the finesse of his line and his mastery of light, particularly remarkable in his depiction of scenes from everyday Provençal life.
Limited edition of 135 copies on Arches vellum; this is one of the 15 author’s, artist’s or collaborator’s copies, in this case a collaborator’s copy, printed for Mr Méric. It is enhanced by a separate suite of etchings, three original drawings signed by Coussens (one at the beginning of the volume and two inserted into the endpapers), as well as three original copper plates inlaid into the binding.
