BAUDELAIRE (Charles). Fifteen Stories by Edgar Poe. A special edition containing plates in four states, illustrated by Louis Legrand. Paris, Société des Amis des Livres, Chamerot and Renouard, 1897. In-4, loose-leaf in an illustrated mouse-grey cover, with cardboard folder and slipcase. 401 and 7 pages; 30 plates in four states, 32 initial letters, vignettes and end-piece illustrations. Case slightly rubbed, title page and proof of print run missing. An edition illustrated by Louis Legrand (1863–1951) of Baudelaire’s translations of 15 short stories by Edgar Allan Poe, including: ‘The Murders in the Rue Morgue’, ‘The Tell-Tale Heart’, ‘The Gold-Bug’ and ‘The Black Cat’. Our copy, which is missing the title page and the proof of print run, but in which each plate is present in four states. A very fresh copy.
