[ILLUMINATIONS]. Book of Hours.
A superb illuminated work, created in the late 19th century for the wedding of Jeanne Dieres Monplaisir (1869–1957) and Charles Heidsieck (1855–1957), son of the founder of the Charles Heidsieck champagne house.
Paris, Bouasse, Lebel & Massin, undated (1894).
In-octavo (196 x 158 mm). Jansenist binding in full green-brown morocco, ribbed spine, title in gilt letters, double fillet on the edges, broad fillet framing on the endpapers with red fleur-de-lis mosaics at the corners, endpapers and flyleaves in moiré silk. Binding signed S. Kaufmann. Slipcase.

Slight transfer marks opposite certain illuminations, very few foxing spots.
A very fine modern book of hours decorated with hand-painted, watercoloured and gold-embellished illuminations by Jeanne Heidsieck, bearing on the title page the date of her marriage to Charles Heidsieck.
Text in printed Gothic type, some enhanced, with coloured and gold line endings, the rest illuminated with gold highlights: initials, including numerous historiated ones; 3 full-page miniatures; large page borders featuring flowers, fruit, animals, mythological creatures, figures and coats of arms.
The Book of Hours is followed by wedding ceremonies and Mass, and communion prayers.
In very fine condition.
