An interesting series of 15 rural scenes drawn by Hippolyte Lecomte (1781–1857) and published in 1822 by François Delpech (1778–1825), one of the first Parisian lithographers.

Quarto volume (325 x 245 mm), Bradel-style cloth-bound cardboard, leather label bearing the title and author’s name on the front cover, fillets and dotted borders, plain spine with title label in gilt letters. Covers intact, margins untrimmed. 20th-century binding.
Cover bearing the title and 15 plates.
Spine slightly faded, minor handling marks on the covers; some slight foxing, mainly in the margins.
First edition and first printing of these rural scenes which capture peasant life with narrative precision and a keen eye for detail: lunch during the harvest, scenes of grape-picking, fishing, hunting, social gatherings, etc.
Hippolyte Lecomte (1781–1857), a pupil of Jean-Baptiste Regnault and Pierre-Antoine Mongin. Painter of history and genre scenes.
Provenance: Library of André Barrier (Paris, 1870–1957), a great bibliophile and collector of prints, President of the Court of Appeal and President of the Cent Bibliophiles, with his etched bookplate.
