A remarkable first edition on large Japanese paper (no. 2), containing three states of the etchings and an original colour watercolour signed by Georges Rochegrosse, in an elegant Jansenist binding lined by René Aussourd.

In-4 (240x310 mm), red Jansenist morocco, spine with 4 blind-stamped false ribs, gilded fillets on the edges, pine-green morocco linings framed by a gilded fillet, ‘René Aussourd’ signature in the leather, burgundy moiré silk endpapers, double endpapers, gilded edges on endpapers, illustrated covers and spine preserved, edged slipcase (René Aussourd).
239 pages, 33 black-and-white plates by Georges Rochegrosse, etched by Eugène Decisy, including 1 frontispiece and 24 insert plates, wood-engraved ornaments by Charles Barbant framing the text.
Minimal rubbing to the spine and edges, very slight wear to the slipcase.
A fine edition of José-Maria de Heredia’s great Parnassian collection, illustrated with 33 delicate compositions by Georges Rochegrosse, etched by Eugène Decisy, as well as lovely wood-engraved ornaments by Charles Barbant framing the text.
Limited edition of 512 numbered copies, this one being one of the first 25 on large Japanese paper or large Arches vellum (No. 2 on large Japanese paper), containing three states of the etchings, including two with remarks (pure etching and pre-letter state), as well as a large original colour watercolour signed G. Rochegrosse (140x195 mm), presenting a variant of the illustration on page 12.
