Minimal rubbing to the spine and edges, very slight wear to the slipcase. A fine edition of José-Maria de Heredia’s great Parnassian collection, illustrated with 33 delicate compositions by Georges Rochegrosse, etched by Eugène Decisy, as well as lovely wood-engraved ornaments by Charles Barbant framing the text. Limited edition of 512 numbered copies, this one being one of the first 25 on large Japanese paper or large Arches vellum (No. 2 on large Japanese paper), containing three states of the etchings, including two with remarks (pure etching and pre-letter state), as well as a large original colour watercolour signed G. Rochegrosse (140x195 mm), presenting a variant of the illustration on page 12. “One of the artist’s finest illustrations, sought-after and highly valued, especially on large paper” [Carteret, Illustrés, IV, 201]. A very fine copy in a lined binding by René Aussourd (1884–1966).
