Contemporary glazed fawn calfskin binding bearing the prestigious coat of arms of Madame la Marquise de Pompadour (1721–1764). Paris: Michel Lambert, 1757. Vol. in-12 (142 × 83 mm). Contemporary glazed fawn calfskin, triple fillet framing on the covers, with the Marquise de Pompadour’s coat of arms embossed in gold at the centre; ribbed spine, red morocco patch, panels decorated with gilded pomegranates, fillet on the edges, red edges, marbled endpapers. (2), 1539–1920 pp. Normal wear and tear, three corners pierced, interior fresh. An important scholarly journal from the late 17th and 18th centuries, containing mainly reviews of books on science (astronomy, geography, mathematics), medicine, travel, literature, linguistics and religion.
 This volume contains articles on: ‘Le dictionnaire François-Breton’ by Cillart de Kerampoul, Bourdet’s *The Art of the Dentist*, *Memoirs on Mathematics and Physics* edited by Pézenas, Adanson’s *Natural History of Senegal*, La Caille’s *Fundamental Astronomy*, ‘Historical Description of the Russian Empire’ by Baron de Strahlemberg, etc. It is noted that, at the sale of the Henri Lavedan collection on 1 February 1929, a volume of the Dutch counterfeit edition of the Journal des scavans appeared, from 4 June to 17 December 1696, bound in fawn calfskin bearing the arms of Madame de Pompadour, with a handwritten bookplate: ‘Bibliothèque Crozat’.
