VOLTAIRE (François-Marie Arouet). La Pucelle d'Orléans. A poem in twenty-one cantos, with notes by M. de Morza. A sought-after edition for its engravings, which are at times rather free in their interpretation. London, n.p., 1775. In-8 (189 x 120 mm), brown half-calf, smooth spine decorated with gilt and blind-stamped designs, title label with gilt foliage and floral garlands, black edges. XV, 447 pages; 1 frontispiece and 21 engraved plates. Spine rubbed and faded, restoration to the joint of the front cover, some foxing, pagination error: page 18 is in fact page 14. New edition with framed text, a reprint of the 1773 edition. The plates, which Cohen and Bengesco attribute to Claude-Louis Desrais (1746–1816), bear one or two lines of verse at the bottom, as well as the number of the canto to which they refer.
