"Camus pondered at length what he envisaged as the great novel of his maturity. Although the project began to take shape from 1953 onwards, it was in 1958–59 that he embarked on a decisive phase of his writing, which was brutally cut short by his death on 4 January 1960. Drawing on Camus’s own experience, *The First Man* is not, however, an autobiography; it is the story of a man who, at the age of forty, looks back on his past to understand where he comes from and who he is." (A. Spiquel).
"In short, I am going to talk about those I loved," writes Albert Camus.
A copy as published, uncut, in perfect condition.
