[1900 WORLD EXHIBITION – RUSSIA] – A collection of items relating to the Russian Grain Pavilion.
An exceptional first edition, bound in Pagnant morocco, commemorating the “Grand Prix” awarded to the Russian Empire at the Paris World’s Fair.
Saint Petersburg / Paris, 1900.
In-4 volume (330 x 260 mm). Full raspberry-red morocco, double blind-stamped border on the covers, title and mention of the Grand Prix gilded in the centre of the front cover. Decorated ribbed spine, gilded inner lace, double fillet on the edges. Binding by Pagnant.
Spine slightly discoloured, scuffing to the edges and corners, small nicks to the corners.
A unique and prestigious collection comprising:
- The original deluxe edition: "1900 World’s Fair. Russian Cereals (Grains and Seeds) exhibited from the perspective of the export trade". Official publication of the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Empire. One of 50 numbered copies on Imperial Japan paper (no. 21). Contains valuable statistics (1887–1897) and a detailed list of samples by producing region (Ukraine, the Caucasus, Bessarabia, etc.).
-Two period photographs (albumen prints) showing the façade and interior layout of the award-winning pavilion.
-A dossier on the international reception comprising press cuttings (French, English, Italian, Belgian, Spanish, German) as well as six articles in Cyrillic script from the Russian press, testifying to the diplomatic and commercial impact of this Grand Prix.
