A remarkable edition illustrated by the painter and illustrator Pierre Vidal, in a splendid Art Nouveau-style mosaic binding, signed Driancourt. Paris, A. Blaizot, 1906. Quarto (220x280 mm), cherry-coloured morocco, spine with cold-stamped raised bands, large Art Nouveau-style floral design stamped and inlaid in ecru morocco, brown and green on the front cover, mosaic floral decoration in morocco leather of the same shades at the centre of the back cover, double gilt fillet on the edges, wide inner band of the same morocco leather adorned with a triple frame featuring gilt corner fittings and the bookbinder’s signature “E. Driancourt", burgundy moiré silk linings and endpapers with floral motifs, double endpapers, gilt head on endpapers, covers and spine preserved, edged slipcase (E. Driancourt). 302 pages, 82 colour plates by Pierre Vidal with borders (41 headpieces and as many tailpieces) and 41 decorated initials. Text framed by a grey-mauve border surmounted by a royal crown. Minor rubbing on the spine and some of the raised bands. A charming edition, expanded to include an unpublished preface by the author, adorned with 82 colour illustrations by the painter and illustrator Pierre Vidal (headpieces and tailpieces) and 41 decorated initials, drawn and lithographed, coloured and retouched with a brush by A. Charpentier et Fils. Limited edition of 376 numbered copies, this one being one of 325 on Rives vellum paper by Blanchet frères et Kleber, specially manufactured and watermarked (No. 91). Elegant mosaic binding, perfectly executed by Driancourt.
