Paris, Calmann-Lévy, 1904 and 1908. 2 volumes in-8 (175x250 mm), paperback, orange cover printed in black, uncut copy with full margins. LXXXIII and 553 pages; 483 pages. Spines slightly creased, covers slightly bent in places. First edition of one of the most widely translated biographies of Joan of Arc in the world, a work by Anatole France (1844–1924), who worked on it for over twenty years. Limited edition of 125 copies on Dutch laid paper, this being no. 110. Complete set in 2 volumes. A fine copy, enhanced on the half-title page by an autograph dedication from the author to Monsieur Jules Frémy: "thanking him for the kindness he has shown me, which is very dear to me". Label from the former Flammarion et Vaillant bookshop on the back cover. A lovely copy with full margins, in perfect condition inside.
