Minor rubbing on the edges and in the corners. A charming illustrated edition featuring 36 fine compositions by the painter and illustrator Alcide Théophile Robaudi (1847–1928), including one on the cover and 35 within the text, engraved with a burin and etched by Henri Manesse. Limited edition of 300 copies, this one being one of the first 150 on Japanese paper or vellum (No. 9 on vellum), with three states of the plates (pure etching, pre-letter and with lettering). A fine copy enriched with two charming original colour watercolours, one of which is full-page and signed A. Robaudi (approx. 110x170 mm), and the other placed as a title vignette, signed with his monogram A.R. (50x55mm). It is further enriched by the publisher’s illustrated subscription bulletin (2 leaves bound in-fine). From the libraries of Dr H. Stilling, with his ex-libris vignette engraved on Chinese paper mounted on a tab, and of A. de Marchena, with his heraldic ex-libris on the flyleaf. A magnificent binding signed "Chambolle Duru", a collaboration between two great names from the golden age of bookbinding: René Victor Chambolle (1834–1898) and Hippolyte Duru (1803–1884).
