A sumptuous copy in a binding by Chambolle-Duru, one of the first 150 on vellum (No. 9) with three versions of the illustrations, enhanced by two charming original colour watercolours signed by Robaudi.

Small quarto (180x260 mm), aubergine-coloured long-grain morocco, extensive gilt decoration framing the covers with fillets, rosettes, fleurons and dotted patterns, spine with small raised bands, gilt in the same style, gilded fillet on the edges, wide gilded interior lace with the signature "Chambolle-Duru" in gilded metal, linings and endpapers of pebbled-pattern paper, gilded edges on the fore-edges, covers and spine, edged slipcase (Chambolle-Duru).
286 pages, 36 compositions by Robaudi engraved with burin and etched by Henri Manesse, placed on the cover, header, within the text and as tailpieces.
Minor rubbing on the edges and in the corners.
A charming illustrated edition featuring 36 fine compositions by the painter and illustrator Alcide Théophile Robaudi (1847–1928), including one on the cover and 35 within the text, engraved with a burin and etched by Henri Manesse.
Limited edition of 300 copies, this one being one of the first 150 on Japanese paper or vellum (No. 9 on vellum), with three states of the plates (pure etching, pre-letter and with lettering).
A fine copy enriched with two charming original colour watercolours, one of which is full-page and signed A. Robaudi (approx. 110x170 mm), and the other placed as a title vignette, signed with his monogram A.R. (50x55mm). It is further enriched by the publisher’s illustrated subscription bulletin (2 leaves bound in-fine).
From the libraries of Dr H. Stilling, with his ex-libris vignette engraved on Chinese paper mounted on a tab, and of A. de Marchena, with his heraldic ex-libris on the flyleaf.
A magnificent binding signed "Chambolle Duru", a collaboration between two great names from the golden age of bookbinding: René Victor Chambolle (1834–1898) and Hippolyte Duru (1803–1884).
