T'SERSTEVENS (Albert). An Apostolate. First edition on Japan paper, bound in half-maroquin by Van-Havère and enhanced with a letter from the author to a friend. Paris, Albin Michel, 1920. 8vo, pine-green half-maroquin with corners, ribbed spine, gilt head edge, covers and spine preserved. Binding signed Van-Havère. 252 pages. Spine faded, cap bands slightly rubbed. First edition. One of 25 numbered copies on Japanese paper, this one being no. 17 (first edition). The last novel published during t'Serstevens’ lifetime, this is the second instalment of the ‘L’Homme seul’ trilogy, following ‘Les Sept parmi les hommes’ and preceding ‘Béni Ier roi de Paris’. Copy containing a letter: a signed autograph letter, addressed to “[h]is dear old friend”, in which the author asks him to send him 50 francs that this friend owes him, before telling him about his holidays in Quinéville in the Manche (2 pages, in-8 [220 x 180 mm], Quinéville, undated) A very fine copy with full margins.
