First edition of the Italian-French dictionary by Abbé François d'Alberti de Villeneuve (1737, Nice – 1801, Lucca), which became the standard reference work by the end of the 18th century. Its novelty and appeal lay in its inclusion of technical and scientific terms, as well as vocabulary specific to professions and trades, as indicated by the subtitle.
To prepare for the compilation of this new lexicon, the author travelled throughout Italy for several years, gathering the precise terminology of the arts and crafts from artisans and professionals.
The ‘French-Italian’ volume is missing here.
A very fine copy.
