[CÉRIA]. BÉRAUD, Henri (1885–1958). *La gerbe d'or*. With copperplate engravings by Edmond Céria. A deluxe edition of Henri Béraud’s memories of Lyon centred on the family bakery, presented in a superb Art Deco mosaic binding by L. Bernard. Lyon, Cercle Lyonnais du Livre, 1931. Large quarto (310 x 230 mm). Black box binding decorated on the covers and spine with an elegant geometric design of grey, yellow and cream mosaic strips and panels, title in gold lettering, gilt edges on endpapers, edged slipcase. Binding by L. Bernard, 1932. 9 unnumbered leaves, 193 pp., 1 unnumbered leaf. A minor blemish on the spine. A few barely perceptible marks opposite the engravings. A fine edition for bibliophiles, illustrated by Edmond Ceria with 52 copper engravings, including a portrait of Béraud on the frontispiece. Printed by Jean-Gabriel Daragnès on his ‘presses à Montmartre’. Limited edition of 160 copies on Arches vellum; this is one of the 120 signed copies, “printed for Mr Paul Goute”. An autobiographical account evoking the author’s childhood memories in Lyon centred on the family bakery La Gerbe d’Or. Henri Béraud won the Prix Goncourt in 1922 for *Le Martyre de l’obèse* and *Le Vitriol de Lune*. Edmond Céria (1884–1955) exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants, the Salon d’Automne and the Salon des Tuileries. Awarded the Legion of Honour and the Carnegie Prize, he was appointed official painter to the Navy in 1945. He also produced two panels to adorn the Palais du Trocadéro during the 1937 World’s Fair. A fine copy.
