Description
ZWEIG (Stefan). *Jeremiah*. Translated from the German by Louis Charles Baudouin. First French edition, one of 10 copies printed on Holland paper (No. XIII). Paris, Les Éditions Rieder (’Judaïsme’ collection), 1929. In-8 (150x210 mm), paperback, untrimmed, cover printed in blue. 361 pages. Spine faded and slightly creased, pages dog-eared at the corners, slight browning at the margins of the untrimmed pages. First edition of the French translation by Louis Charles Baudouin, published in the "Judaïsme" collection edited by Edmond Fleg. Undoubtedly Stephan Zweig’s most intimate work, conceived as a long poem centred on the life of the prophet Jeremiah and the impending destruction of Jerusalem. Limited edition of 165 numbered copies; this is one of 10 copies on Holland & Gelder Zonen (No. XIII) following 5 on Japanese paper. A fine copy with full margins.
