[ILLUMINATIONS]. Book of Hours or Church Services, illustrated by Nelly Godefrin in the style of manuscripts from the 9th to the 15th century. A magnificent illuminated interpretation, produced in the late 19th century in the spirit of the great medieval manuscripts, entirely adorned with historiated initials, miniatures and richly decorated borders. The volume is preserved in a splendid binding by H. Reneau. Lille, 1871. In-octavo (210 x 137 mm). A sumptuous binding in full havana morocco, richly decorated, with fillets and broad lace edging on the covers, featuring a scattering of fleurs-de-lis; in the centre of the front cover is the monogram N.G. (probably Nelly Godefrin), spined back decorated with fleur-de-lis panels, double fillet on the edges, wide inner lace, moiré silk lining decorated with the same design as the covers, beginning with the initials N.G., gilt edges, cardboard slipcase. (Binding by H. Reneau). 92 pp., (4) pp. A fine book of hours with printed Gothic type, some enhanced, line endings in colour and gold, the rest illuminated with gold highlights: initials, many of which are historiated; 6 miniatures, including 3 full-page illustrations; large page borders featuring flowers, fruit, animals, mythological creatures, figures and coats of arms; the twelve months at the beginning, accompanied by a small miniature at the bottom of the page. Rare in such fine condition.
