Description
LANDRU (Henri-Désiré). Dixain. A beautiful artist’s book presenting the poems composed by ‘the Bluebeard of Gambais’ on the eve of his trial, illustrated with 11 colour woodcuts by Michel Tabanou, here presented by the publisher in a unique slipcase modelled on the shape of a guillotine. No place, Éditions du Fourneau, 1980. Booklet in-8 (170x240 mm), paperback with bevelled edges, colour-illustrated cover with flaps, in a slipcase signed "C. Laucou, 89" imitating the shape of a guillotine. 8 pages (unpaginated), 11 compositions drawn and wood-engraved in colour by Michel Tabanou, including seven double-page spreads, one of which is the cover. Minimal wear and black marks on the spine of the slipcase. A very fine polychrome typographic edition designed by Christian Laucou, adorned with eleven colour woodcut illustrations by Michel Tabanou. Imprisoned at Versailles and sentenced to death for the murder of ten women, Henri-Désiré Landru had composed these poems for his lawyer, Maître Moro-Giafferi, on the eve of his trial. Limited edition of 150 copies on Arches vellum, with no proof copy; this is No. 83, signed by the artist. It bears a handwritten note in pencil on the first page: "For 4 July, the anniversary of the father of the headless". A very fine copy, well preserved in its original slipcase.
