DROUART (Raphaël), LOUŸS (Pierre). Poems. A unique and exceptional copy, belonging to the artist Raphaël Drouart, featuring the 76 original drawings used to illustrate the book. Presented in a superb binding by René Kieffer, which was exhibited at the 1947 Tuileries Salon. Paris, Georges Crès et Cie, 1930. Large 4to (320 x 255 mm), full brown morocco with Art Deco decoration, covers adorned with eight gilt medallions depicting female nudes on a striated background, arranged in groups of four, highlighted by bands of filleting and blind-stamped scrolls, gilt headband. Binding by René Kieffer. 1f, bl., 121pp., + 70 drawings + 2 suites + 6 drawings. A few light foxing spots. Collective first edition, printed in a run of 110 copies, including 10 on old Japanese paper (numbered I to X) and 100 on vellum. First copy (V/X), “printed especially for Raphaël Drouart”. The illustrations consist of 70 etchings by Drouart, often depicting female nudes in symbolist compositions. In our copy, each print is preceded by its original graphite drawing on Annam paper; furthermore, 6 additional drawings are bound at the end of the volume. The copy is complete with both sets of 75 plates each (excluding the title vignette and colophon), enriched with 7 previously unpublished plates not included in the edition. Black-and-white suite on Chinese paper. Red chalk suite on pearlescent Japanese paper. A fine copy in perfect condition.
