Hubert de Castelbon Ferroussat was an architect who became the owner of a plaster works in 1771. In 1775, he sent a petition to the King in which he complained about the poor quality of plaster in Paris and proposed solutions to improve it. This book, published a year later, is his plea. In it, Ferroussat summarises a century of controversy between masons and plasterers, whilst proposing innovative technical solutions to improve the quality of the plaster delivered to building sites. (See Tiffanie Le Dantec, Plaster-coated façades in Île-de-France. The Decline of Exterior Plaster, from the 17th to the 20th Century, 2019).
A valuable work for the history of construction techniques, the building trades and urban policies on the eve of the Revolution.
