Description
[ALBIGEOIS]. A handwritten land register drawn up for Béraud de Voisins, Lord of Lagrave (west of Albi in what is now the Tarn department) and of Luc (a village that no longer exists, which was situated near Lombers, south of Albi), signed by Étienne de Mayrinhac, notary at Labessière-Candeil (south of Albi) under the authority of the capitouls of Toulouse. 1491. LX folios, in folio format, several old foliations with corrections, old annotations; bound in a single volume of stiff parchment, smooth spine, handwritten title and painted coat of arms on the front cover, leather ties; water stains, first leaf frayed with restorations and a slightly opaque lining (modern binding). Land register of the seigneury of Luc, recording the acknowledgements of tenures (houses, fields, vineyards, etc.) under long-term leases subject to ground rent. Tenures are classified by tenant: microtoponyms are mostly mentioned in their vernacular form; tenants, named in Latin only, are also identified by their occupation and place of residence. Chapter initials written in calligraphic pen, one of which is adorned with a drawing depicting a male profile. The earliest folio number begins at CXIV, indicating that this is only a part of a larger collection, the missing opening section likely being the land register of the seigneury of Lagrave. There are also three further leaves on different types of paper: a table of the names of the tenants mentioned in this land register (17th-century handwriting, bound in with the main text), and two leaves bearing various notes, with three heraldic drawings (16th-century handwriting, mounted on the endpapers).
