DU LAURENS (Honoré). Speech and true account of the conference held between the deputies representing His Grace the Duke of Mayenne [...], princes, prelates and the Estates General assembled in Paris: with the deputies of the princes, prelates, lords and other Catholics belonging to the party of the King of Navarre. Troyes, Jean Oudot, 1593. In-8, pale calfskin, triple gilt fillet, coat of arms in the centre, plain spine decorated with grotesque motifs, interior lace, gilt edges on marbled paper (18th-century binding). An important account of the negotiations at the Conference of Suresnes between the Catholics of the League and the supporters of the King of Navarre. This conference, held in the context of the Estates General of 1593, played a decisive role in Henry IV’s definitive conversion to Catholicism and his entry into Paris. Honoré Du Laurens (1554–1612), Advocate General at the Parliament of Provence, attended the negotiations on behalf of the moderate members of the League. He subsequently gained the trust of Henry IV and became Archbishop of Embrun in 1600. This provincial edition, published in the same year as the original, was produced in Troyes based on the Parisian edition by Frédéric Morel. Two woodcuts bearing the royal arms of France adorn the title page and the final leaf. A prestigious copy bearing the coat of arms of the Marquise de Pompadour (1765, no. 2779). From the libraries of J.-B.-C.-E. Authié de Belleroze, with a wet stamp on the final endpaper; Camille de La Motte-Ango (1836–1893), Marquis de Flers, with bookplate; and from Count René de Galard de Béarn (1920, II, no. 171), with bookplate.
