DÜRER (Albrecht). The Sea Monster, or The Abduction of Amymone. Das Meerwunder (Raub der Amymone), [c. 1498–1500]. Copperplate engraving on laid paper, signed on the plate with the monogram AD. 247 x 187 mm, with a border. Modern frame and mat. A very famous mythological print depicting a naked woman being carried off by a triton, engraved with a burin by Albrecht Dürer around 1500. Late 16th-century print. Watermark: large city gate (Briquet, no. 15929, dated 1559). Significant restoration affecting the subject; the print is doubled on the reverse. Bartsch, 71 – Meder, 66 – Schoch-Mende-Scherbaum, 21.
