[HOURS]. O most salutary Host… [Hore intactissime virginis marie ad usum Romanum]. Paris, Pierre Vidoue for Germain Hardouyn, 1524 [almanac for 1524–1537]. In-16 on vellum, [112] folios (marked A–O8); red morocco, double gilt rule, plain decorated spine, gilt inner wheel, gilt edges (18th-century binding). A very rare small-format book of hours from the press of Pierre Vidoue. The edition is printed in round type, with the text in red and black. It is illustrated with 15 engravings within the text: the Host (f. 1r), Saint John on Patmos (f. 14v), the Betrayal of Judas (f. 17v), the Annunciation (f. 25r), the Visitation (f. 30r), the Crucifixion (f. 36r), Pentecost (f. 37r), the Nativity (f. 38r), the Announcement to the Shepherds (f. 41v), the Adoration of the Magi (f. 45r), the Presentation in the Temple (f. 48v), the Flight into Egypt (f. 52r), the Coronation of the Virgin (f. 57r), Bathsheba at her bath (f. 68v), Job on the dungheap (f. 78v). A copy printed on vellum, with engravings illuminated at the time and embellished with a hand-painted red and gold border. The text is rubricated, with the initials painted in red, blue and gold. A copy finely bound in the 18th century. From the Damazert library, with a handwritten bookplate; the A. Perras library, with a stamp; and the Agnès-Rambaud library, with a bookplate. Cracks in the joints; minor repairs to the binding. Not listed in Lacombe, Bohatta or Brunet.
