[MANUSCRIPT]. [Ceremonial for the reception of novices according to the custom of the Cistercian Order]. Incipit: *Ordo ad recipiendum novitias secundum morem ordinis Cisterciensis*. S.l. [Italy], 1562. A calligraphic manuscript on vellum comprising [34] folios written in Gothic script, 20 lines per page, plus [10] blank ruled folios. In-4, red morocco leather, framed by a wide frieze of gilded fleurons, with extensive decoration of curved fillets terminating in azure fleurons on the covers, converging in a central medallion with a perforated background; spine adorned with small gilded fleurons; gilded edges (contemporary binding). A precious 16th-century Italian manuscript containing the liturgical rite for the reception of novice nuns into the Cistercian Order. The text is signed and dated at the excipit: Hic liber est domini Dyonisii Galli: quem scripsit quidam monachus nomine Marcus, anno domine MDLXII die XXI mensis septembris [This book belongs to Lord Dyonisius Gallus [Dionisio Gallo?], and was written by a monk named Marcus on 21 September 1562]. The work was written in calligraphic script on vellum in red and brown ink and illuminated with 27 very pretty initials painted in red, yellow and grey, and sometimes highlighted with gold, ranging in height from three to six lines.
