OVID. The Great Olympus of Poetic Tales by the Prince of Poetry, Ovid Naso, in his *Metamorphoses*. Paris, 1543. Paris, Guillaume Le Bret, 1543. 3 parts in one in-8 volume, brown long-grain morocco, triple gilt fillet, double border of roulettes and blind-stamped fillets, spine decorated with gilt and blind-stamped motifs, inner roulette, gilt edges (J. Arnott, Ludgate Hill). A fine and rare edition in round type, illustrated with numerous woodcut vignettes. The same woodcut depicting the author at his writing desk is repeated on the title pages of all three parts. The edition was shared between Guillaume Le Bret and other Parisian booksellers, such as Pierre Sergent, Ambroise Girault and Vivant Gaulterot. A copy finely bound in the 19th century in London by J. Arnott, with his label on an endpaper. An old handwritten bookplate beneath the title woodcut: ‘Le livre de Robert Nicolson, Anglois’. From the Roger Budin library in Geneva, with bookplate. Minor wear to the spine, some foxing and small stains, a wormhole at the back of the volume, and minor marginal repairs to the last two leaves.
