BIBLIA SACRA, vulgatæ editionis, Sixti V pont. max. jussu recognita, atque edita. Jussu cleri gallicani. – Novum Jesu Christi Testamentum. Paris, Antoine Vitré, 1652. 7 tomes in 10 volumes in-12, red morocco, Du Seuil-style decoration, coat of arms in the centre, decorated spine, roulette on the edges, gilt interior lace, gilt edges (contemporary binding). An elegant edition of the Vulgate, known as the ‘Vitré Bible’, printed by decision of the Assembly of the Clergy of 1650. A general frontispiece title page adorns the first volume. A very fine copy bound in morocco in the Du Seuil style, bearing the coat of arms of Mgr Charles Le Goux de La Berchère (1647–1719), chaplain to Louis XIV and Archbishop of Aix, Albi, and later Narbonne, with a bookplate. From the library of Mgr René-François de Beauvau du Rivau (1664–1739), Archbishop of Toulouse and later of Narbonne, who inherited the library of Mgr Le Goux de La Berchère, with a handwritten bookplate on the title pages. This copy is described in the catalogue of his sale (1741, II, p. 11), at which time it was complete with all 11 volumes. The 11th volume (Acts, Epistles, Revelation) is missing.
