Description
LEPAUTRE (Jean). Collection of engravings of architectural decorations and ornaments. Paris: Pierre Mariette et al., undated. In-4, reused half-vellum binding with corners, plain, unmarked spine (late 18th-century binding). A significant collection of 155 prints designed and engraved by Jean Lepautre (1618–1682), including 5 double-page plates, taken from series published for the most part by Pierre Mariette: fountains, basins, carriage entrances, altars, tabernacles, mausoleums and funerary monuments, fireplaces, frame decorations, mirrors, tables and pedestal tables, Roman-style ceilings, trophies of arms, etc. Proofs with a narrow margin or without margins, mounted in a half-parchment album made from reused material. Handwritten signature of Milon the Elder at the bottom of many plates. A few proofs are stained; one plate is unbound.
