PIBRAC (Guy du Faur de) et al. The Quatrains of Messrs Pybrac, Favre and Mathieu. Collected as *The Pleasures of Rustic Life*. Paris, J.-B. Loyson, 1667. Two works in one 8vo volume, in blue Jansenist morocco, with lace lining and gilt edges (late 19th-century binding). An edition based on that of 1640, adorned with a frontispiece title page and four full-page etchings by Pierre Brebiette. It brings together the *Quatrains* by Guy du Faur de Pibrac (1529–1584), the *Moral Quatrains and on the Vanity of the World* by Antoine Faure (1557–1624) and the *Tablettes de la vie et de la mort* by Pierre Matthieu (1563–1621), followed by *Les Plaisirs de la vie rustique* by the same Pibrac. The following has been bound together: *Receuil [sic] de plusieurs pièces*, by Messrs de Pybrac, d’Espeisses and de Bellièvre, not yet printed. Paris, Pierre Blaize, 1635. A very rare collection of prose discourses comprising two unpublished texts by Guy du Faur de Pibrac – the *Discourse on the Soul and the Sciences* and his *Apology to the Queen of Navarre* – as well as several discourses and letters in Latin and French by Jacques Faye d’Espeisses (1543–1590) and Pomponne de Bellièvre (1529–1607). A well-bound copy in blue Jansenist morocco. A few old annotations on the title page and the final blank leaf; with wider margins, these two leaves have been folded back. A marginal tear on p. 75 of the *Tablettes*, a small loss to the running title on p. 47 of the *Recueil*. Brunet, IV, 628 – Canivet, no. 110.
