SENAULT (Élisabeth). *Heures nouvelles* dedicated to His Highness the Dauphin. Paris: published by the author, Jacques Le Gras, n.d. [c. 1700]. In-16, red morocco leather, gilt fillet and scrolls, covers decorated with a scattered pattern of gilt dolphins and stars, spine decorated with gilt dolphins, interior lace, gilt edges, gilt metal clasps, contemporary case in red morocco leather decorated with gilt scrolls (Contemporary binding). A charming, entirely engraved book of hours, decorated with numerous borders, initials, headpieces, fleurons and culs-de-lampe written and engraved in intaglio by Élisabeth Senault, the daughter and pupil of the famous calligrapher and engraver Louis Senault. This first work by Élisabeth Senault is a veritable compendium of the decorative repertoire of the late 17th century: flowers, parterres, foliage, scrolls and arabesques. A copy in a lovely red morocco binding embossed with dolphins. Handwritten bookplate at the bottom of the title page: ‘To P. Gendron the Younger’. Handwritten note dated August 1858 on an endpaper: ‘This book… was given to me by his son Adolphe Bachelet…’ Corners and caps restored, clasps replaced, slight marginal water stains; modern title label on the slipcase.
