Description
[BÉZIERS]. Missa sacratissimi Cordis Jesu. [Béziers, 18th century]. Large folio, 43 pp., white half-vellum with corner pieces, plain, unmarked spine (modern binding). A fine liturgical songbook produced using a stencil in red and black, featuring notated music and handwritten additions from the period.
It is adorned with a large header illustration depicting the Sacred Heart of Jesus and three decorated initials, all executed in pen and enhanced with watercolour.
Handwritten bookplate on a flyleaf: This book belongs to the nuns of Notre Dame de Béziers, who have lent it to Mr Daumas, parish priest of Saint-Nazaire. It is to be returned to Mrs Monestier or Mrs Billière, nuns of the same community. Seal of the library of the Bishopric of Montpellier.
