Description
CREUZÉ DE LESSER (Hippolyte). Statistics of the Hérault Department. Montpellier, printed by Auguste Ricard, 1824. Quarto, red long-grain morocco, double border of a double gilt line and blind-stamped scrolls, blind-stamped medallion in the centre, decorated spine, untrimmed (contemporary binding). First edition, complete with the large folding map of the Hérault drawn by Blanc and lithographed by Siebenmann. A copy on large vellum paper, luxuriously bound in the period. Autograph dedication signed by the author to Mr Auguste Durand on the half-title page and a note in the same hand on the title page: Work awarded a prize by the Institut in 1825. Spines and corners slightly rubbed, a few scattered foxing spots, two tears in the map with no loss of material, repaired with adhesive tape.
