[MANUSCRIPT]. BASVILLE (Nicolas de Lamoignon de). Memorandum concerning the Province of Languedoc drawn up by M. de Baville, Councillor of State and Intendant of Languedoc in the year 1698. [18th century]. Folio, 329 pp., pink glue-bound paper cardboard, smooth spine, title label, marbled edges (contemporary binding). A very neat handwritten copy of one of the most famous reports intended for the instruction of the Duke of Burgundy, drafted between 1697 and 1698 by Nicolas de Lamoignon de Basville (1648–1724), Intendant of the Languedoc Generality from 1685 to 1718.
This major work provides an in-depth administrative, geographical, economic and social portrait of the province at the end of the 17th century. It contains a fold-out statistical table.
