BOURDET (Étienne). Simple Measures for Oral Hygiene, for the Preservation of Teeth, and to Prevent Teething Problems in Children. Paris, Jean-Thomas Hérissant, 1771. In-16, red morocco, triple gilt fillet, floral motifs at the corners, plain decorated spine, gilt endpapers, gilt edges (contemporary binding). A new, considerably expanded edition of this manual on medicine and dental hygiene. Étienne Bourdet (1722–1789) was, after Pierre Fauchard, one of the leading French dental surgeons of the 18th century. He made significant contributions to the art of dental prosthetics, but was also one of the first authors to address paediatric dentistry. This manual is a condensed version of his seminal work published in 1757, *Recherches et observations sur toutes les parties de l’art du dentiste*. A charming copy in contemporary red morocco leather, in rare condition. From the library of André Lebey (1877–1938), novelist, poet and historian, Vice-President of the Council of the Grand Orient of France from 1913 to 1919 and Member of Parliament for Versailles, with his signature on an endpaper. The book does not appear in the catalogue of his library, which was dispersed in June 1938. Upper edge trimmed, two corners slightly worn.
