[FAUST]. The marvellous and lamentable story of Jean Fauste, the great magician, together with his will and his dreadful life. Cologne [Brussels], published by the heirs of Pierre Marteau [George de Backer], 1712. Small 12mo, red Jansenist morocco, interior lace, gilt edges (late 19th-century binding). A rare and sought-after edition, adorned with a curious frontispiece engraved by Jacques Harrewyn depicting Dr Faust surrounded by demons and spectres. This is a reprint of the French translation of the 1587 *Faustbuch* published by Pierre Victor Palma Cayet in 1598. A well-bound copy. M. Weller’s wet stamp on the title page (repeated on p. 7).
