LIMIERS (Henri-Philippe de). Annals of the French Monarchy, from its Establishment to the Present Day. Amsterdam, L’Honoré & Châtelain, 1724. 3 parts in one folio volume, green morocco-bound sheepskin, gilded fleur-de-lis lace, plain decorated spine, inner roulette, gilt edges (early 19th-century binding). First edition. This monumental work comprises three parts: historical, genealogical and numismatic. The illustrations consist of an allegorical frontispiece drawn and engraved by Bernard Picart, a vignette by the same artist repeated on the title pages, seven large fold-out genealogical plates in the second part and, in the third, 63 full-page plates of views and plans of the principal monuments and strongholds of France, framed by commemorative medals. The second part comprises nineteen chapters with separate pagination, preceded by a title and a note to the bookbinder. Saffroy describes an edition with continuous pagination. He makes no mention of Picart’s frontispiece. A fine copy, well bound during the Restoration. The half-title is missing. Spine slightly darkened, slight scuffing on the covers, a few foxed leaves, a tear (with no loss) in a genealogical table. Saffroy, I, no. 10302 k.
