[MANUSCRIPT]. The Office of the Most Holy Name of Jesus, as it is customarily sung by the Society of Priests, who, every year on the Wednesday before Ascension Week, gather at Castellione in the Church of St Nicholas and, in unison, offer the most fitting praise to this most holy Name. Manuscript dated 1769. In-4, [2], 137 pp. (with 7 blank folios at the beginning and 20 at the end), tortoiseshell calfskin, triple gilt fillet with fleurons at the corners, decorated spine, roulette on the edges, gilt edges (contemporary binding). A fine 18th-century liturgical manuscript for the feast of the Holy Name of Jesus. The work, written in red and black calligraphy, with the music for the hymns notated, is embellished with hand-painted watercolour figures and ornaments, including a title within a frame, a half-page figure on the reverse, and large headpieces, headers, initials and footers, including a Pietà (p. 62), flowers and birds, the Agnus Dei (p. 134) and a full-page Crucifixion (p. 137). Binding rubbed, corners and caps restored, modern title label, tear repaired on pp. 13–14.
