Innocent Deceptions, or a collection of engravings after various illustrious painters, such as Raphael, Le Guide, Carlo Maratti, Poussin, Rembrandt, etc., engraved in their style and in accordance with the particular taste of each. Amsterdam, published by the widow of Bernard Picart, 1734. 2 parts in one folio volume, red half-basane with corners, plain, unmarked spine, untrimmed (contemporary binding). First edition of this posthumous collection containing 78 subjects engraved on copper by Bernard Picart (1673–1733) after Raphael, Luigi and Annibale Carracci, Le Guide, Poussin, Le Brun, Rembrandt and others, as well as a portrait of the artist engraved by Jacobus van der Schley after Matthäus des Angles. These engravings are accompanied by a ‘Discourse on the Prejudices of Certain Curious Individuals Concerning Engraving’, a ‘Historical Eulogy of Bernard Picart’ and a catalogue of his work.
