Description
POMIER (Louis). A Treatise on the Cultivation of White Mulberry Trees, the Rearing of Silkworms, and the Proper Use of Cocoons. Orléans, Couret de Villeneuve, 1763. In-8, red morocco leather, broad lace border with gilt fleurons, plain gilt-decorated spine, inner lace border, gilt edges (contemporary binding). First edition, dedicated to the Estates of Languedoc. This treatise is a completely revised and reworked version of *L’Art de cultiver les mûriers blancs* (The Art of Cultivating White Mulberry Trees), published by the same author in 1754 and reprinted in 1757. Its three parts are entitled ‘Treatise on the Cultivation of White Mulberry Trees’, ‘Methods of Rearing Silkworms’ and ‘On the Spinning of Silk’. The illustrations comprise seven folded insert plates. A copy in red morocco with lace trim, in a rare and desirable condition. Slight water-stain on the first four leaves; a few browned quires and scattered foxing; the first plate is slightly trimmed at the margin, affecting the numbering of the figures. Quérard, VII, 257.
