A Historical Gallery of French Actors, Mimes and Comedians who have made a name for themselves in the annals of the provincial theatre from 1760 to the present day, to serve as a supplement to Nicolet’s Troupe. Lyon, N. Scheuring, 1877. In-8, red morocco, triple gilt braid, gilt bookplate in the centre, finely decorated spine, interior lace, gilt edges (Reymann). First edition. The volume, luxuriously printed by Alfred-Louis Perrin and Marinet, is adorned with 48 full-page portraits of actors, etched by Jean-Marie Fugère. A copy on tinted laid paper in a fine Reymann binding bearing the emblem of the Lyon bookseller Auguste Brun (1821–1904), surmounted by his motto ‘Work, pray and hope’. From the Jean Meyer theatre library (2009, no. 46), with bookplate. Slight smudging on the engravings; one spine joint slightly cracked. Vicaire, V, 489.
