Description
[BOUILLON (Pierre)]. The City of Lyon, in burlesque verse. Day One [–Two]. Lyon, Widow of N. Barret, 1750. 2 parts in one in-12 volume, red morocco, triple gilt rule, filigree medallion in the centre, spine decorated with small ironwork, inner lace, gilt headband, untrimmed (E. Thomas). Second edition of this rare collection of humorous pieces, containing the ‘Harangue des Merciers’, the ‘débat des Fruitières’, the ‘inventaire de la Loge’, the ‘chicane des Plaideurs’, the ‘éloquence des Batelières’, etc.
The first edition was published in Lyon in 1683 by Pierre Bouchard, to whom the work is also attributed. It was reprinted in the Collection des bibliophiles lyonnais in 1846.
A copy corrected in red ink and finely bound.
From the Lyon library of Joseph Renard, with an ex-libris and the following handwritten note: ‘Attributed to Pierre Bouillon, town crier, and caretaker of the Chapel of St Roch in Lyon. (Rare).’
